Event Rules
As always, there has to be a few rules to make the event run smoothly and safely
GENERAL
This is not a race. It is a fun, family event; there are no prizes for winning.
Every entrant will receive a medal when they finish and be in the draw for the awesome spot prizes. You must be present at the major spot prize draw to claim your prize. There are heaps of minor spot prizes that will be given to you at registration if you are lucky enough to win one.
Geared bikes are not essential. BMX style bikes are adequate but bikes with fat tyres and gears are best.
The event will run whether it is wet or fine.
The event is open to preschool, primary and intermediate school aged children.
SAFETY
Participants must ensure their bike is in a safe condition before entering the event. If in doubt get the bike checked at a bike shop prior to the event. There will be a mechanic at the event for emergency repairs - not for safety checks. Check the ends of the handle bars, if there is a hole, plug it up. Bike shops have plugs.
Everyone must wear a properly fastened helmet and covered shoes.
We recommend riders also wear gloves, but this is not essential.
Participants must listen to, and obey, instructions from marshals and event organisers.
There will be first aid onsite to deal with any accidents.
The course is open to the public at all times.
Marshals will be stationed around the course to assist riders and control pedestrians.
There will be lead and tail riders for each group.
Spectators must stay behind the tape/barriers in the start/finish areas.
Event organisers reserve the right to change the course for safety reasons.
Accompanying riders
All Balance bike riders must be accompanied by a person over 10 years old walking/running. • Under 6 year olds must be accompanied by a person over 10 years old either walking, running, or biking in SHORT COURSE ONLY and must start at the back of the start wave.
Adults may only accompany riders on the short and balance bike courses.
Those on trailer bikes must start at the back of the short course only.
No accompanying riders permitted on the long or medium courses.
All accompanying riders must wear a helmet too.
The club event manager’s decision is final for any disputes.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Balance bike – flat, no obstacles but interesting terrain. Approx 1km . Only for under 5 yr olds on balance (bikes without pedals) or 16in wheel bikes with/or without trainer wheels AND must be under 5 years.
Note: We will ask those who do not meet the criteria to wait and take part in the short course. We encourage all pedal bikes, even under 5's, to do the short course, including those with trainer wheels.
Short - Mostly flat, no obstacles and one short downhill section. 2.6km. Recommended for 5-6 year olds. • Medium - 2 laps of the short course, 5.2km. Recommended for 7 years + or beginners.
Long - a slightly longer course which includes obstacles, steeper climbs and descents. 3 laps of a 3km course. Recommended for 8 years + competent riders.
We recommend you carefully choose the course to suit your child. It is best for everyone if they are riding a course that is within their skill and fitness. We will wait a reasonable length of time for everyone to finish and will close the courses off in a time that will allow us to start the next wave on time. Consider how long it would take your child to ride approximately 3km. Use the following as a guide. Long course - under 15mins; Medium course - under 25mins; Short course - no limit, but they would have at least 35mins. Balance bikes - must meet the criteria above.
SKILLS COURSE
This will include a number of obstacles to ride over or around to test your riding skills. One course with a way around tricky things. Make sure you check it out, there will be adults on hand to help out.
SCHOOLS CAN WIN PRIZES TOO

The school with the greatest percentage of the roll entered. This gives small schools a chance to win as well. The school role is based on the data published by the MOE.
Fair Play Rules
A school can only win one or other of the prizes, if you qualify for both the 2nd prize goes to the next highest school in the category.
A School can only win one of the prizes for two years in a row, if they win a 3rd time, the prize will be awarded to the next highest school.
